Matthew Bruns

Matthew Bruns is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Technology. After receiving both a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Bachelor of Music in Music Technology at Northwestern in 2006, he is hoping to combine both fields through research in acoustics. In particular, his master's thesis will focus on modeling air turbulence and determining its perceptual effects on sound. In addition to his research, Matt enjoys playing Classical guitar.

 

Scott Jaeger

Scott's research interests include the creative applications of nonlinarity, quantization, discontinuity, and frequency-domain aliasing , through the design of musical instrumentation to realize these ideals. He obtained a BFA in Performing Arts Technology (with a concentration in Media Arts) from the University of Michigan School of Music. Privately, Scott has composed oddball audio material as Naked Intruder, and has founded and directed Mile 329 Org, a mailorder outlet for abrasive electronic music. In addition to his duties as the Wizard of XOR, Scott enjoys the analysis of obscure chip music from the 1980s and malignantly atavistic graphic design.

 

Michael Shellabarger

Mike Shellabarger (b. 1978) is a composer/ performer from Detroit. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Theory and Composition from Central Michigan University. He cut his teeth playing live music at a young age and has played all over North America with various jazz and rock groups, Orquesta de C‡mara de la U.A.E.M, and a three year stint in the western swing/ rock-a-billy group The Starlight Drifters. A commissioned sound designer and composer, Mike is equally adept in composing or performing. His goal is to infuse technology and signal processing into music composition and song writing.

 

Tugba Tatli

Tugba Tatli(b. 1981, Ankara) is a Chicago based musician active in electoacoustic music composition, sound design, and music programming. She graduated from Bilkent University School of Music and Performing Arts in 2004 with a B.M degree in Music Theory and Composition. From 2005 to 2007 she studied electroacoustic music music with Dr. David Taddie and piano with Dr. Peter Amstutz at West Virginia University. She graduated from WVU in 2007 and began the Music Technology program at Northwestern University School of Music. Between 2007 and 2009 she studied computer sound synthesis and spatial audio with Gary Kendall, electronic music composition with Chris Mercer, and computer animation with Debra Tolchinsky. Tugba is currently workingÊ as a graduate assistant in the electronic music studios at Northwestern University and finishing her masters thesis on binaural sound synthesis advised by Agnieszka Roginska at New York University.

David Etlinger

David received a B.A. in mathematics and physics from the University of Rochester, where he also minored in music. Though he has not yet picked an area of focus, he is leaning towards explorations of surround sound in musical contexts. He plays keyboards, guitar, and occasionally trumpet. David loves talking about gear and rock music, and firmly believes Perfect Pitch can be learned (he’s made significant progress, but the project is on hiatus).

Casey Farina

Casey Farina (b. 1977) is an active composer, performer, improviser, and sound designer in the Chicago area, Casey has been involved in a variety of capacities in performances across the continental United States and is constantly searching for new ways to incorporate nonlinear interactivity into all of his creative work. He is a D.M. student in Music Technology at Northwestern University and holds B.M. and M.M. degrees from Arizona State University in percussion performance.

 

Brett Masteller

Brett M. Masteller recently arrived at Northwestern University and has begun working towards a D.M. in Music Technology/New Media. He received his B.A. and M.A. in music from SUNY at Buffalo where his studies involved music composition and technology. While studying in Buffalo, under the guidance of Cort Lippe, he composed works for electro-acoustic and interactive computer music as well as some purely acoustic music. Brett has also played the roles of recording engineer/producer, musical composer/director for the collaborative performance art group RANT, sound designer/engineer for theatre and dance productions, and electronic improvisation experimentalist/performer. His works have been performed in the U.S., Europe, and Australia.
